Video: Alone in the Dark (PC) First 20 minutes of gameplay!

by dawnclover

Here you go, the first 20 minutes of gameplay of the awesome (although flawed) Alone in the Dark for the PC. Yes, it’s the PC version, the reason why the controls showed are from the 360 controller is because I’m using a 360 controller connected to the PC. There are NO spoilers here, all the cutscenes were erased, 20 minutes of pure gameplay. Expect a review soon.

My Internet = Crap

Sorry once again… My internet got f’d up again, unfortunately they don’t know what the problem is… damn. Anyway, it seems to be stable for now, so I decided to update this. Dawnclover is working on a review for Alone in the Dark (the PC version – wich is the same as the Xbox360 version), so you can expect that coming maybe even today. Also, that review will have our first videos made by dawnclover! You’ll see the first 10 minutes of the game + some more gameplay videos recorded by dawnclover. That’s all for now, if I get too quiet well… you know what’s wrong.

Thanks for the visit!

We’re BACK!

Hi, sorry about the absence, apparently my internet problem wasn’t fixed at all, until now. Also, dawnclover asked me to tell you the final GTA4 review will take more since he’s going for the 100% mark before releasing it. He is though working on a REVIEW for “The World Ends With You” (DS) and “Portal” (PC), the latter one maybe coming up today. Again, sorry about this, if it happens again, I’ll find a way to warn you. Thanks for visiting (the views went up by miles! Thanks for your visits! Too bad no one comments…). I’ll see you people later, stay cool!

GTA4 Special 07: Liberty City (PS3)

written by dawnclover

Yeah so, I wasn’t really sure what name to give to the 7th article on this GTA4 Special. So, whatever yeah? Let’s move on to what’s important. Guns! Of course, if you’re not new to the GTA series you know there are gunshops where you can use your hard-earned money to get some sweet fire power. You get a look at every weapon (well, almost, there are variations to each weapon) in every gunshop. Of course, early in the game most of them are not available to buy. But yeah you just walk up to a weapon, press L1 to try it on and see if you feel dangerous with it like, “you feel lucky? punk?” and then press X if you want to buy it or L1 if not. If you already have the weapon, you can buy ammo for it by pressing X. You can also buy armor in the gunshops, wich is your friend. Really.

Then we have dear old “Pay ‘n’ Spray”. If you don’t know what this is, you probably never played any GTA games before. You can use the “Pay ‘n’ Spray” to change the looks (and fix) your car. You can do this for fun, or to get cops attention to something else (this won’t work if they see you going inside P’n'S). Of course, nothing in Liberty City is free (as in real life), so you gotta pay to get the job done. Also abou car-care, you have now the “Car Wash”. Yes, the cars get dirty! Be it blood (as I told you before) or dirt, if you don’t like the appearance of your vehicle, just drive to one of those (this won’t fix your car). Again, not free of course.

The weather in Liberty City changes as in real life. You get those rainy days, you get some foggy days (reminded me of London sometimes), and this affects your gaming. If it’s raining and you’re driving, prepare yourself because the car will be more loose! After a while you’ll get the hang of it though, if it’s foggy it’s sometimes harder to see stuff in front of the car (thick fog doesn’t happen often). Also, of course, there is a night/day system. Each day goes to night in real time and you can actually see the sun go down and see the impressive shadow system at work and then the sky turning darker into the silence of the night. Well, “silence”. I wish they would make some snow too, but that would be a bother to make, they would have to make the streets with snow all over and then make it melt somehow. But it would be awesome. My favorite time of the day is when it’s more sunny! I just love the colors in the city. Specially in Star Junction.

Speaking of city, you have 2 options when on mission or if you want to get to someplace. You can either steal a car and drive yourself, or you can be lazy and get a cab (this will cost money of course). You can enter a cab as a passanger by holding the TRIANGLE button (if you only tap it, Niko will steal it). When inside, you can choose where to go and then, you either enjoy the view while the guy takes you to your destiny, or you can skip the scene (this will cost a little extra money). I personally prefer driving myself, it’s cheaper. And I get to know the city better. I only went by cab once, and I don’t think I’ll be doing it again – unless it’s requiered for some kind of mission of course.

If you choose driving, and if you are a crazy driver (on the game, of course), like me, and crash all over the place (once, I was driving on a crowded street, and I was crashing everywhere and some random pedestrian just threw himself to the ground and shouted: “WOMAN DRIVER!!!!” – i laughed so hard my stomach started hurting – genious!), be careful, because now either your car gets on fire and eventually explodes (beautiful realistic explosion by the way), or your car breaks down and you see Niko trying to make it run but the engine not responding – sometimes he can get it running, sometimes not. If not, and you are running or following someone, be fast and change cars.

Also, when you are stealing cars, if you played GTA before, you know some pedestrians will try to get their cars back, if you start accelerating when they reach the door they will grab the door and not let go while you drive, this is fun because you can crush them in a wall or other cars or even throw them at a light post. Fun. Also, I had a funny experience earlier today. Some random guy in the street gave me money, saying he was rich. What the hell?

There are more ways to go around Liberty City, and, like in other GTA games you can take the train. You just go up to a train platform and ride it wherever you need to go. You either watch the whole thing, or skip it. I hope on future GTAs they include BUS rides. That’s the only public vehicle I think they are forgetting (it’s in the game and you can drive it, but I don’t think you can use it to take you anywhere). Also, you have the subway, that works just like the train, but underground. It’s fun to ride on the underground lines with your car too, but it’s kinda dangerous! *laugh*

One thing new about going around Liberty City, is that, in certain bridges you are required to pay a toll of 5$ to go through. You just have to slow down at the barrier, Niko will pay the dude and off you go. You can of course go through free, but the cops will be onto you and sometimes it’s just better to not draw attention, though these are pretty easy to escape from.

More on GTA4 soon.
Over and out!

GTA4 Special 06: Love and Friendship (PS3)

written by dawnclover

Admin Side-Note: I’ve been noticing a lot of visits since we started out our GTA4 Special. If you like what you read people comment or bookmark our site, if you think you are able to help us with reviews / previews or something, please comment! We are looking to spread our team and make this site bigger! Thanks for the visit!

GTA 4 is not all about crime, mayhem, destruction and well… crime. In GTA 4, like in GTA:SA you can maintain relationships with other women. You can betray them, you can take them wherever you want, etc. It’s like having another girlfriend! Yes, apart from having to satisfy your real life girlfriend, now you have to worry about the virtual one too. Like life could get even harder! Well anyway, you can meet other girls through the internet on a website called Love Meet (where a humorous mission happens, you’ll see), but the first girlfriend you get is presented to you by advancing through the story. Later on you decide what to do. Betray her and get to know other girls, or keep going out with her. This relationship thing is awesome, everytime you go out with one of your girlfriends, she talks with you about the events going on in the game, and each one has a different personality. You should always consider what you’re wearing, don’t wear the same thing 2 dates in a row, or she’ll notice. To take your girlfriend out, all you have to do is give her a call and see if she’s up to it.

Apart from girlfriends, wich you can take bowling, darts, to the cabaret, etc, you also have friendship! You can maintain these high if you want by taking your friends to these entertainment places too (and to a strip club – for God’s sake don’t take your girlfriend there lol – “oh dear, where have you been?”, “ah, funny story, this girl MADE ME go through a lap dancing. Made me. Made. Me.” lol). As far as I’ve seen this doesn’t matter much, as well as the girlfriends, but they are always fun to do, and the dialogues are very funny at times.

Be careful when taking one of them to the bar though, Niko gets drunk and it’s a pain in the ass to drive! If you have motion sickness, beware, this made me sick sometimes (when the drunk level is really high). Speaking of clothing, and how you can impress the girls with this, the shops are pretty cool. You go inside (no loadings, no fade-to-black screen, just go inside, and you’re in, in real time) and walk around the store. You can get close to an item and press L1 to try it out. If you like it you can buy it. You can then change clothes in the safe-house, so, don’t worry if you buy 2 pants at the same time, the other one will be in the safe-house. This time around, the main character can only change clothes – no body building, no haircuts, no tattoos, etc. You can do this in the multiplayer though, you have a high costumization of the character in the multiplayer. I guess they made it like this because they wanted Niko to stay the same. And I don’t think it’s a big of a deal.

Also, when you go out on a date, you can choose to try your luck or say goodbye. A good time spent in the bed with the chick, or go away. I advise you try this only when you have a high percent of relationship with the girl, or you’ll get a huge NO in your face. The cutscene is funny. You can also pick up prostitutes in the street and take them to somewhere private and see it all happen. Yes, you can see it. Not explicit of course. If you get lucky, your life will replenish itself. Also, something I just found out, when you’re driving to a mission spot, when you reach the arrow your car stops by itself. This is cool because in other GTA’s I always found myself going too fast to break in time and then had to do a U-turn to get to the objective. Nice touch.

Stay tuned for more.
Over and out.

GTA4 Special 05: Menu and Cops (PS3)

written by dawnclover

Side-note by admin: First of all, I’m really sorry about the absence these 2 days, if you read the previous post you know I had internet problems, and I’m the only one who can post in this blog. Yes, the articles are written by dawnclover, but I’m the one posting them. Well, things look stable now and we can continue our special! I’m off, hope you like the articles.

GTA4 is that kind of game that everytime you play you find something new and makes your jaw drop. Today, going around crazy in the city I noticed that everytime I runover a pedestrian, the car gets stained with blood, and the blood stays there. In one of my plays I had my car so filled with blood everywhere it was nasty, really awesome. Also, the city is a lot more destructable now, you can run-through park benches, fences, eletrical posts (this one is not actually new), boxes (ditto), mail posts, etc etc etc! There are times that I’m going so fast and can’t stop and think “oh crap, I’m gonna crash into that fence and the cops will get me” and crash! It’s destructable and I continue my escape. Also, car crashes are awesome and pretty realistic. I love the way the cars get smashed, they look like they are real and if you hit somewhere, the part that hit will be damaged realisticaly.

Another thing to add to the realism is that, if you hit let’s see, a tree for example, with the correct angle and speed, Niko might be thrown out of the front car window! This doesn’t happen always, so don’t think it will be a bother, no, it’s really awesome.

The menu is pretty similar to the other Grand Theft Auto games, you press start and the menu pops up with the city map in dispay, wich you can choose by pressing X and choose your next destiny and the GPS will do the rest of the job. You can toggle the legend on or off if you want too. Then you have the ‘Brief’ menu, as you might know, if you miss some information the game gave you recently, you can come here and read it again. Very useful. Then, the adored (at least by me) Stats. Love those things, sometimes I lose myself for minutes just reading these. This time there are a lot more in different categories. They are:
* General
* Crimes
* Vehicles
* Money
* Player
* Combat
* Score
* Misc.
* Network

I’m not gonna go through the trouble of commenting on each one since it’s not difficult to imagine what these have. Ok, let’s keep going. Next we have ‘Controls’. Here you can, of course, change the controls (you can toggle the SIXAXIS on or off here for each different use). Then we have ‘Audio’. Here you can change the effects / music volume, change your radio station (the chat stations are now in a different category), toggle the GPS audio on/off/on for selected cars and the audio output (mono/stereo) . Next to this we have ‘Display’ where you can configure the brightness, contrast, saturation of the game (I spent a little time on these to get the perfect image, the game was too dark in the default options, and I mean too dark, so I advise you to go through these). Here you can also turn the subtitles, radar, HUD, GPS route, handbrake cam on or off, you can change the weapon target from simple to complex, and you can also change the game language.

The last option in the main menu is ‘Game’, where you can load a saved game, start a new game from scratch and turn autosave on or off. Again, if you’re like me and like to cause mayhem in the city from time to time, before doing that remember to turn the autosave off and save in one of the safehouses before going nuts on the game, or you might lose all your money and weapons. Very useful.

One of the things you’ll notice when playing GTA4 is that the cops are actually easier now (well, depends on the number of the stars – yes the stars are still here, the maximum are six). Imagine you have a 1 or 2 star level, you can easily check the map and get out of the ‘cop area’ (shown in the map) and wait for 10 or 15 seconds until they stop searching for you. Of course if you have 3, 4, 5 or 6 wanted star level you’ll be in big, big trouble.

Don’t forget to keep checking for more GTA4!
Over and out.
